Detroit, MI

  • Nick Yelloly scores first-career IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship pole position
  • First pole for HRC in new expanded engineering effort on the Acura ARX-06 #93
  • Acura Meyer Shank Racing's Tom Blomqvist makes it an Acura 1-2 to lead the field

It's a pole position for Nick Yelloly and the Acura Meyer Shank Racing with Curb Agajanian team on the streets of Detroit as the British driver takes his first IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship pole for tomorrow's 100-minute Detroit Grand Prix.

It is also a milestone for Honda Racing Corporation USA, as the group took on an expanded role with the Acura ARX-06 #93 team for the 2025 season—race engineering and calling strategy for the entry.

Yelloly's pole is part of an impressive 1-2 result for Acura, with teammate Tom Blomqvist completing the Acura MSR lockout of the front row in the #60 Acura ARX-06. Blomqvist was just 0.146 of a second off of his teammate's time in his very first visit to the downtown Detroit Grand Prix circuit.

Last year, Acura scored victory on the streets of Detroit, with Filipe Albuquerque and Ricky Taylor taking the victory. The Acura MSR quartet of Yelloly, his co-driver Renger van der Zande and Blomqvist with his co-driver Colin Braun, will be looking to replicate that result tomorrow.

Quotes
Nick Yelloly
(#93 Acura Meyer Shank Racing with Curb Agajanian Acura ARX-06) Qualified 1st: "First pole position for myself in IMSA and obviously pole is great for all of Acura, HRC and Meyer Shank Racing. Really happy about the couple laps we did there particularly at the end, I don't think there was much more left in it. This is the best place to start. Having pole position at any street circuit, it usually makes your life quite a bit easier. I obviously know this circuit from last year already, and we were pretty fast already as a combination. We've been working so hard to make sure we get everything right, just chipping away at it week after week. The program is still so new, and we all only got together in November of last year, and I think we have gone from strength to strength every weekend and we're just getting better and better. It's a sign of things to come."

Tom Blomqvist (#60 Acura Meyer Shank Racing with Curb Agajanian Acura ARX-06) Qualified 2nd: "Fantastic qualifying for the team and awesome job by Nick (Yelloly) to get the pole. They had some really good pace today, so fair play to them, they did really, really well. Obviously, I'm a little bit disappointed to not get the pole, but I'm super happy for the team and for Acura and HRC for getting a front row lockout; 1-2 is the best place to be for us as a team. Let's see how tomorrow goes, it's definitely going to be an interesting race, but we're starting from the right part of the grid."

David Salters (President, Honda Racing Corporation USA): "Pole position for the HRC US #93 Acura, and a front row lockout with the #60 Acura in second. That's a good day at the office. Massive congratulations to our guys and gals who have worked really hard, and everyone at Meyer Shank Racing and our superb drivers, everyone has knuckled down. We know the challenge we're up against as we're facing world class competition in this championship, and now with the increased role from HRC, we're starting to rise to the challenge, so well done. Before we went out on track for qualifying, we said give it the beans, and we gave it the beans! Well done everyone, superb job. Congratulations to Nick and congratulations to Tom."
