Detroit, MI
- Nick Yelloly and Renger van der Zande win 100-minute IMSA street fight
- #60 Acura ARX-06 duo of Tom Blomqvist and Colin Braun come home P6
It was a win from pole for the #93 Acura Meyer Shank Racing with Curb Agajanian team as the duo of Nick Yelloly and Renger van der Zande brought home a victory in the 100-minute IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship Detroit Grand Prix.
Yelloly's fabulous lap in qualifying had the #93 solidly in the lead for the first half of the race, but Renger van der Zande would emerge third in line following the pit sequence. However, thanks to a couple of daring passes, including for the lead on the last lap, the #93 would ultimately secure the victory.
The result marks the first win for Yelloly and van der Zande since joining Acura at the start of the season—and the first win for Honda Racing Corporation USA amid the company taking on an increased role in engineering and strategizing the #93 machine.
On the number #60 side of the garage, Tom Blomqvist rolled off P2 after securing Acura a front row lockout in qualifying. He would remain in podium contention through the first half of the race, however following the one, and only, pit stop, teammate Colin Braun would be shuffled back down the order as the strategy played out.
Braun worked through the second half of the race to recover positions and the #60 Acura ARX-06 would wind up sixth at the line.

Quotes
Nick Yelloly (#93 Acura Meyer Shank Racing with Curb Agajanian Acura ARX-06) Finished first: "Obviously very happy to get the win. We had a good start and a good opening stint. We lost a couple of positions there in the middle because of pit stop rotation—which we definitely need to have a look at. But Renger did a hell of a job; the two overtakes that he did were very decisive and made the difference today. I think as fuel came off our car, it came alive. Perfect way for Acura, HRC and Meyer Shank Racing to get back on the top step."
Renger van der Zande (#93 Acura Meyer Shank Racing with Curb Agajanian Acura ARX-06) Finished first: "Victory in Detroit! I love this place now even more. I loved Belle Isle and now winning here is topping it all off. The HRC and MSR guys did a great job and we finally had a competitive car and that pays off in this series because you can start attacking, defending or you can race your strategy a little bit. Nick did a fantastic job in qualifying but also today. He nailed the first section of the race and gave me a car that was in a great position. First victory for us and it feels so good."
Tom Blomqvist (#60 Acura Meyer Shank Racing with Curb Agajanian Acura ARX-06) Finished sixth: "Fantastic job for the 93 guys for getting the win there. That was the goal for all of us at MSR and HRC. Renger did a fantastic job at the end there to score the victory for the guys. For us our race was kind of toast. Unfortunately, we weren't really able to do much, but sometimes that's how it goes. We'll move on and hopefully make amends at the next one."
Colin Braun (#60 Acura Meyer Shank Racing with Curb Agajanian Acura ARX-06) Finished sixth: "Super pumped for the 93 guys and Acura. It was obviously the goal of this whole group to get a win. Super proud of this whole team effort, a lot people within Acura and Meyer Shank who work really hard on this program. On the 60 car we had a solid race, we did a bit of a split strategy and I think we maximized what we had today for sure. Tom did a great job. We had a good driver change and out lap and solid race in the end."
David Salters (President, Honda Racing Corporation USA): "Speechless, absolutely speechless. What a day. Our first win for the #93 car, which is engineered by HRC, together with the brilliant men and women of Meyer Shank Racing. We've got these brilliant minds coming together, and we've achieved our first win at the pinnacle of world class sports car racing, which feels pretty good. Our drivers were absolutely magnificent. Nick put it on pole yesterday, and Renger basically won the race for us today. Our heroes, true heroes, and just phenomenal members of our HRC team. So massive congratulations to all. So thrilled that we've risen to the challenge. We still have a way to go, but a great step taken. I think that's the end of my dry January!"
