- #93 MMG Honda of Karl Wittmer and LP Montour fights back to fourth after penalty setback
- MMG moves to close the gap in TCR class championship standings
Honda added another strong result to its IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge campaign at the Virginia Is For Racing Lovers Grand Prix, as the #93 MMG Honda Civic Type R TCR of Karl Wittmer and LP Montour charged to a fourth-place finish after an eventful two-hour race at VIRginia International Raceway.
The race began with chaos in the opening stages, marked by multiple incidents across the field. For MMG, a drive-through penalty just prior to the pit stop window forced the #93 Honda to fight from deep in the running order.
Taking over for the closing stint, Wittmer delivered a spirited drive, making several decisive overtakes as he recovered ground quickly. He climbed from seventh up into the final podium position in the last ten minutes of the race. However, straight-line speed from a competitor proved decisive, as Wittmer was passed on the back straight during the final lap, ultimately taking the checkered flag in fourth.
Despite the early setback, the pairing of Wittmer and Montour maximized their performance and consistency over the final hour to stay in championship contention. The result secures another strong haul of championship points for MMG, elevating the #93 Honda to just 30 points off the lead with two only rounds remaining.
Meanwhile, the #5 KMW Motorsports with TMR Engineering Honda Civic Type R TCR of William Tally and Tim Lewis saw a return to stronger form. After resolving handling issues that plagued them in a previous outing, the TMR Engineering group showed competitive pace all weekend. A strategy gamble in the opening hour, however, did not play out as intended, leaving them to settle for ninth at the line.

Quotes
Karl Wittmer (#93 MMG Honda Civic Type R TCR) Finished fourth: "This championship push is full tilt going into the last two races. The big positive of this race is that we got valuable points. It's a dead heat going into Indy and Road Atlanta, which is always spicy for the championship. It's great for Honda that we're up there with the other manufacturers. This car is really good, and I do believe it's the strongest car in the field. We'll keep digging and this is still good momentum for what felt like a tough day."
