  • MMG Honda Civic Type R TCR takes victory in the O'Reilly Auto Parts 4 Hours of Mid-Ohio with stunning last-lap pass
  • KMW Motorsports with TMR Engineering starts on pole as Rocco Pasquarella sets a new track record

The #93 MMG Honda Civic Type R TCR drove to victory lane this weekend in IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge competition at the O'Reilly Auto Parts 4 Hours of Mid-Ohio.

The MMG trio of Dai Yoshihara, LP Montour and Karl Wittmer rebounded from a mid-race penalty that dropped them to the rear of the TCR field to take victory. Their #93 Honda Civic led just one lap on the day, but it was the only one that mattered, with Wittmer pulling off an impressive last-lap maneuver to secure his team the win.

KMW Motorsports with TMR Engineering also had a strong showing at Mid-Ohio—a facility just over an hour's drive from Honda's Marysville, Ohio auto manufacturing plant.

The KMW #5 Honda Civic Type R TCR started on pole with Rocco Pasquarella setting the TCR track record in qualifying. Pasquarella and co-driver Tim Lewis combined to lead a race-high 75 laps before an alternator issue with 30 minutes to go would relegate the pair to 11th.

The HART team, comprised primarily of both drivers and mechanics from the automotive side of Honda, returned to action this weekend at Mid-Ohio—the team's home event. Chad Gilsinger, Tyler Chambers and Cameron Lawrence cycled to the lead of the event and looked set to take home a top-five finish before a cut tire late in the race scuppered that result and the trio would end up seventh.

IMSA GTD champion for Acura, Mario Farnbacher, joined the Pegram Racing father / daughter pair of Larry and Riley Pegram for the second event this year. Unfortunately, their #72 Civic was unable to finish the race following an air jack failure.

This weekend's win by MMG moves Honda into second place in the manufacturers' championship standings in the IMPC TCR class.

Quotes
Karl Wittmer (#93 MMG Honda Civic Type R TCR) finished first: "I'm so pumped for the team, for MMG and HRC and everyone at JAS. It was really hot in the car, everything got hot, but we worked through the day and we won! Props to Denis for keeping everything clean and for just some really good racing in that last stint that was really fun and respectful. But, it means everything to win for Honda at Mid-Ohio. This one is pretty special."

LP Montour (#93 MMG Honda Civic Type R TCR) finished first: "Karl just has something about last lap passes! We had a great race. Kept the car really clean, there was no contact at all across all three of our drivers. We knew with Karl in the car at the end we would have a chance. This is a good stretch. We won at the Honda race track, and then go straight into two places we've won at before. Plus, this is our first four-hour race win for the team, so I'm excited about that too."

Dai Yoshihara (#93 MMG Honda Civic Type R TCR) finished first: "Since I was the first guy to drive, my number one goal was save the car for LP's stint next. There were a few times I could have pushed harder in that opening stint, but it was risky and I think being patient worked out. LP kept moving up really well, and then Karl got in and did his great pass. I could not be happier! It's amazing to be part of a winning lineup and to get a win for Honda in such a big year for them—to win at one of our home tracks is just so great."
